The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi, Dankombo Morris, to Plateau State following the deadly attack on Bin’per community in Mangu Local Government Area.
The police said the deployment was part of measures to reinforce security in the area after the attack, which claimed the lives of about 24 residents, injured several others and destroyed property.
Morris, who represented the IGP, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected community on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
He was accompanied by the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Ayoade Faniyan, and other senior police officers.
According to a statement on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the AIG assessed the security situation and reviewed measures being implemented to prevent further attacks.
Addressing residents of the community, Morris conveyed the IGP’s concern over the incident and condemned the attack as “barbaric and unacceptable.”
He sympathised with families who lost loved ones and assured residents that the police would work to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The AIG disclosed that additional personnel and operational assets had been deployed to the affected area to strengthen security.
He said the police were also intensifying efforts to restore confidence in the community and enable residents to safely return to their homes and livelihoods.
During the visit, Morris also paid a courtesy call on Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, where he conveyed Disu’s condolences to the state government and residents over the incident.
The governor expressed concern over the attack and reaffirmed the state government’s support for ongoing security operations aimed at apprehending the perpetrators, preventing further attacks and restoring lasting peace in affected communities.
