Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested one suspect identified as Lucky Adoh, an aide to the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, over the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the ministry.
The Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the police had also launched a manhunt for two other suspects identified as Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine in connection with the death.
According to him, the deceased, a Deputy Director in the ministry, died following an incident that occurred at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, in Asaba, Delta State
“The Command has also taken note of allegations suggesting that he was physically assaulted by aides to the Commissioner identified as Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine, and Lucky Adoh.”
He said the operatives, upon receipt of the complaints, swung into action and arrested one of the suspects, Lucky Adoh, while a serious manhunt for the other fleeing suspects was ongoing.
Edafe said the Commissioner of Police had ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the subsequent death of the deceased.
He said the investigation would examine all available evidence, including video footage, eyewitness accounts, medical records, and the actions of all persons connected with the incident, to establish the facts and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice in accordance with the law.
He assured that the command would neither shield nor spare anyone found culpable, irrespective of status or position, adding that regular updates on the matter would be provided as the investigation progressed.
