The Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has entered into a strategic partnership with four firms to expand access to clean, reliable and affordable electricity across communities in the council’s four graded chiefdoms.
The partnership involves a joint venture consortium comprising Transcorp Energy Limited, Transcorp Power Plc and Husk Power Systems, in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
Maikalangu stated this when he led a delegation from Transcorp Energy Limited, alongside representatives of Husk Power Systems, to the palaces of the Sa’peyi of Garki, HRH Alhaji (Dr.) Usman Ngakupi, and the Chief of Jiwa, HRH Alhaji (Dr.) Idris Musa.
He said the council was determined to support projects that would directly improve the quality of life of residents and create sustainable opportunities for economic growth.
According to him, the initiative is centred on an interconnected solar mini-grid project, which he described as a significant step towards strengthening electricity access and supporting sustainable economic development within the municipal area.
He said the proposed project was expected to provide dependable and cleaner electricity to households, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities and other critical community institutions, while creating an enabling environment for small and medium-scale enterprises to thrive.
The chairman noted that access to reliable electricity remained critical to the development of local businesses, education, healthcare, agriculture and other productive sectors.
He said the partnership reflected AMAC’s commitment to attracting responsible investments and innovative solutions to the municipality.
Maikalangu said the project, upon completion, was expected to deliver several benefits, including improved power reliability, enhanced economic activities, job creation, support for local businesses and increased productivity across beneficiary communities.
He further assured the consortium and other stakeholders of the council’s institutional support, adding that AMAC would continue to facilitate constructive engagement among investors, traditional institutions and host communities to ensure that the project achieved its intended objectives.
Receiving the delegation, the traditional rulers commended the council chairman for what they described as his proactive approach to attracting development initiatives and investments to communities across AMAC.
They expressed appreciation for the proposed clean-energy project and acknowledged the potential impact of reliable electricity on economic activities, education, healthcare and the general wellbeing of their people.
