Aiyedatiwa Dismisses Anti-Party Allegations, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC

The Ondo State Government has dismissed allegations that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is engaging in anti-party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the claims as false, misleading and politically motivated.

The clarification followed the circulation of photographs showing the governor with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ondo Central Senatorial District, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, at the Government House Chapel in Akure on Sunday.

In a press briefing on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said attempts to portray the meeting as evidence of disloyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were a deliberate effort to create unnecessary controversy and sow discord within the ruling party.

According to the him, the Government House Chapel, like the mosque within the Government House premises, is a public place of worship open to all citizens, religious leaders and public officials irrespective of political affiliation.

The government explained that Senator Akinyelure attended the chapel for worship and also used the opportunity to appreciate Governor Aiyedatiwa for sending a representative and goodwill message during the celebration of his 70th birthday.

The statement described the visit as a normal act of courtesy and respect that should not be politicised.

It further noted that Senator Ayo Akinyelure is a younger brother to Chief Pius Akinyelure, a prominent APC leader, ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council in Ondo State.

Reaffirming the governor’s political allegiance, the government stressed that Aiyedatiwa remains fully committed to the APC and its candidates across the state.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa remains committed to the APC and all its candidates. The Governor will work with all party structures to ensure that APC wins all elections in Ondo State,” the statement said.

The government urged APC members and the public to ignore what it described as the antics of mischief-makers seeking to create division within the party, insisting that the governor remains focused on governance and the continued development of the state.

It added that Governor Aiyedatiwa would not be distracted from his mandate of delivering good governance and consolidating the achievements of the APC administration in Ondo State.
