The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved a ₦169.106 billion supplementary budget for the 2026 fiscal year, alongside a series of major projects covering roads, drainage, healthcare, electricity, education and other critical infrastructure across the state.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Leader Leneke, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the 16th State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Council Chamber, Government House, Yola.
Leneke said the supplementary appropriation followed the state government’s access to additional funds from the Federation beginning in September, explaining that the funds could not be expended until they were duly captured in the state budget.
The supplementary budget, amounting to ₦169,106,027,894, raises Adamawa State’s total 2026 budget to ₦752,437,409,399.
According to the government, the additional funds will be distributed among Ministries, Departments and Agencies based on identified needs and development priorities, with the supplementary appropriation providing the legal framework for their utilisation.
Beyond the supplementary budget, the council approved several projects aimed at expanding infrastructure and improving public services across the state.
Among the major approvals is ₦6.307 billion for the supply and installation of integrated solar-powered streetlights along the 21-kilometre Superhighway and the 1,000 Housing Estate in Malkohi.
The council also approved ₦690.98 million for the rehabilitation of the main hospital and staff quarters at the Cottage Hospital in Lamurde.
In the health sector, ₦1.783 billion was approved for the procurement of modern medical equipment, including an S11 Plus ultrasound scanner and a FibroScan 360, while another ₦462.82 million was approved for the procurement of a modern dialysis machine.
For flood control and urban infrastructure, the council approved ₦484.12 million for the construction of a stormwater drain at Unguwan Magaji in Yola South Local Government Area.
Another ₦11.314 billion was approved for the construction of township roads and stormwater drains in Gula, internal road networks at the College of Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Studies in Gulak, as well as Shuwa Township Roads I and II.
The council approved ₦3.217 billion for road networks and stormwater drainage at the Mubi Cattle Market, while ₦3.684 billion was earmarked for access and internal road networks at the new Building Materials Market along the Numan Road axis.
At the new NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Malkohi, Yola South, ₦376.97 million was approved for the construction of a four-metre-by-1.2-metre stormwater drainage system.
The council also approved ₦10.510 billion for roads, drainage, parking areas and related infrastructure around the new state stadium, with the works extending towards surrounding communities. The government said the project is intended to provide supporting infrastructure required for the stadium to host major sporting events.
In Adamawa North, the council approved ₦3.371 billion for the rehabilitation of electrical infrastructure from Uba through Michika to Madagali.
The project, divided into seven lots and to be handled by five contractors, is expected to restore electricity infrastructure damaged during the Boko Haram insurgency and reconnect affected communities.
The council similarly approved ₦249.89 million for the extension of electricity supply to Bengo community in Fufore Local Government Area.
In the education sector, approval was granted for the design, costing and supervision of the construction of 11 new male and female student hostels across five state-owned tertiary institutions, at a cost of ₦358.5 million.
The government said the projects form part of efforts to deploy available resources towards infrastructure renewal, improved healthcare and education, expanded electricity access and better living conditions across Adamawa State.
Meanwhile, the state government has renewed its appeal to residents, particularly those in riverine and flood-prone communities, to remain vigilant as the rainy season approaches its end.
Residents were advised to take necessary precautions, including relocating to higher ground where required, to safeguard lives and property from possible flooding.
