Lagos Blue Line: Three New Rail Stations To Open February 2027

The initial three stations of the Lagos Blue Line Rail Phase 2 extension are set to begin operations by the end of February 2027. This development follows steady progress on the rail line stretching from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, as announced by the Lagos State Government on Friday, November 6, 2026.

The first three stations of the Lagos Blue Line Rail Phase 2 project are scheduled to open by the end of February 2027, as construction progresses on the extension from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.

In a post shared via X on Friday, November 6, 2026, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the second phase would add six stations along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, connecting more communities to the rail network.

Sanwo-Olu said work was progressing on the tracks, bridges and stations, with Festac, Alakija and Trade Fair expected to be the first three stations to open.

“The future of transportation in Lagos is taking shape and we are making steady progress,” the governor said.

He added that the project was part of his administration’s vision to reduce travel time and improve mobility for residents.

“Our vision is a Lagos where people spend less time travelling and more time living, working and building their future,” he said.

He added that the state was turning the vision into reality “one project at a time.”

The Lagos State Government is moving forward with the second phase of the Blue Line Rail, which will add six new stations along the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The first set of stations to open will serve the Festac, Alakija, and Trade Fair areas.

  • Positive Impact: Commuters in these areas will see a massive reduction in travel time and better connectivity to the rest of Lagos, bypassing the heavy traffic usually found on the expressway.
  • Potential Concerns: Ongoing construction work may lead to temporary traffic diversions or restricted road access in certain areas until the stations are fully completed in 2027.
