Dangote Foundation Plans Free IPO Shares For Students

The Aliko Dangote Foundation is working on a plan to secure initial public offering (IPO) shares in the Dangote Refinery for up to four million eligible Nigerian university and polytechnic students, a step designed to boost financial literacy and empower the youth.

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, commended Aliko Dangote and his foundation for the initiative, describing it as an innovative approach to wealth creation and long-term financial planning.

Under the proposed programme, each eligible student aged 18 and above is expected to receive 10 IPO shares without having to provide money for the purchase.

Alausa said the initiative would give students practical exposure to capital markets and responsible investing while preparing them for greater economic participation and financial independence.

He said the programme aligned with the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by linking education with enterprise, human capital development and inclusive economic growth.

“The initiative offers students practical exposure to capital markets, responsible investing and long-term financial planning,” the minister said.

Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to working with private-sector organisations to improve the quality and relevance of education and equip young Nigerians with skills needed in a changing economy.

He also urged other corporate organisations to support initiatives that promote youth development, financial awareness and entrepreneurship.

However, the minister clarified that the ministry’s commendation was based on the initiative’s educational and developmental value and did not constitute an endorsement of any particular investment decision.

The proposed scheme could benefit up to four million students, although further details on its implementation and eligibility arrangements were not provided in the statement.
