Governor Sanwo-Olu and US Consul General Discuss Expanded Lagos-US Partnerships

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu welcomed the United States Consul General, Brandon Hudspeth, to Lagos House in Marina, where both officials explored strategic avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Lagos and the United States.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed this in a post via social media, on Friday, saying the meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, supporting businesses and improving engagement with the Nigerian diaspora.

The governor welcomed Hudspeth back to Lagos, recalling his previous role in the state as head of the US Political and Economic team between 2020 and 2022.

“Today, I received the United States Consul General, Brandon Hudspeth, at Lagos House, Marina,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“It was a pleasure welcoming him back to Lagos, as he previously led the US Political and Economic team here from 2020 to 2022. He already understands the drive and energy of our state.”

Sanwo-Olu said the recent Sister State Agreement between Lagos and California had created an opportunity to expand areas of cooperation between Lagos and the United States.

“With the recent signing of our Sister State Agreement with California, we have another opportunity to deepen the relationship between Lagos and the United States and create new areas of collaboration,” he said.

According to the governor, discussions with the consul general also covered diplomatic cooperation, support for Nigerian-American businesses and stronger engagement with Nigerians in the diaspora.

“We discussed deepening diplomatic cooperation, supporting Nigerian-American businesses and strengthening our engagement with the Nigerian diaspora,” Sanwo-Olu added.

The governor said he looked forward to working with Hudspeth to further strengthen relations between Lagos and the United States.

“It was good to reconnect and I look forward to working with Consul General Hudspeth as we strengthen the ties between Lagos and the United States,” he said.
