A yet-to-be-identified man has been electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalise a transformer at Abam-Ama community in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Civilian Joint Task Force Commander in Okrika LGA, Igwe Godswill, disclosed this on Tuesday, saying the incident was discovered by members of the group who were on patrol in the area.
Godswill said the incident was reported to the group in the morning, adding that the deceased was believed to have been electrocuted when electricity was restored while he was allegedly vandalising the transformer.
He said: “When we got to the scene, we saw blades, a torch and other items. From all indications, he went there to steal from the transformer, and when power was restored in the middle of the night, he was electrocuted. That was how he died.”
He stated that the incident has been reported to the Okrika Police Division for investigation.
Godswill said the identity of the deceased was yet to be established, explaining that suspected vandals often came from distant communities to carry out their activities.
The Rivers State Police Command has not reacted to the incident, as spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, is yet to respond to an inquiry concerning the incident.
