The $1 billion HOPE-SP Initiative has been unveiled as part of efforts to move Nigeria’s social protection system from short-term palliatives to sustainable pathways for economic empowerment.
The initiative was unveiled in the presence of the First Lady, ministers, state governors, heads of government agencies and development partners.
The programme, under the Office of the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, is positioned as a major step towards strengthening social protection and expanding opportunities for vulnerable Nigerians.
The initiative seeks to shift the focus from emergency relief to sustainable interventions that can help beneficiaries build livelihoods, improve resilience and achieve greater economic independence.
The unveiling was attended by key stakeholders from the federal and state governments, government agencies and development organisations.
The initiative is being promoted under the theme “From Palliatives to Pathways,” highlighting the government’s stated commitment to replacing temporary relief measures with longer-term solutions to poverty and vulnerability.
