The reforms are designed to reposition the NYSC into a more skills-focused and youth-development-oriented institution, aligned with national economic priorities.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and the Federal Ministry of Youth have also been directed to amend the NYSC Act and relevant regulations to provide legal backing for the new framework.

A key component of the reform is the leadership structure of the scheme, as the NYSC will now be headed by a civilian, while the military will continue to provide security support for corps members across the country.

The Federal Government said the overhaul is part of efforts to transform the scheme into a productivity-driven institution that equips young Nigerians with relevant skills and supports broader economic goals.

It stated that the reforms will help reposition the NYSC as a skills-oriented platform aligned with the administration’s ambition of building a one-trillion-dollar economy.
