NCDC Steps Up Contact Tracing And Supplies PPE Across High-Risk States

As Nigeria reinforces its strategy to curb the ongoing Ebola virus outbreak, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has stepped up contact tracing, laboratory screenings, and the dispatch of essential protective gear to vulnerable states.

The agency disclosed this in an update on its response activities, noting that it continued to hold daily Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) meetings to review progress, coordinate interventions and identify priorities across key response areas.

The meetings bring together teams working on laboratory services, disease surveillance, risk communication and community engagement, among other critical areas.

Under the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the NCDC is coordinating the response in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory Administration, relevant ministries, departments and agencies, and development partners.

The agency said response measures include monitoring identified contacts, mobilising laboratory testing kits and providing PPE and other essential supplies to states considered at high risk.

Investigations are also being conducted by Port Health Services in collaboration with aviation stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen health surveillance and prevent further transmission.

The NCDC emphasised the importance of coordinated action, timely information and public cooperation in protecting Nigerians and containing the outbreak.

It urged continued support for public health measures as response teams sustain surveillance, testing and other interventions.

What You Should Know

The NCDC is actively working to prevent the spread of Ebola by enhancing surveillance, tracking down potential contacts, and supplying medical teams with necessary protective gear. Daily emergency meetings are being held to coordinate efforts between health authorities, aviation stakeholders, and other key partners.

  • Positive Impact: Swift intervention, proactive testing, and better resource distribution help contain the virus quickly, protecting public health and reducing the panic associated with potential outbreaks.
  • Potential Concerns: An outbreak poses heavy demands on the healthcare system, and any gaps in contact tracing or public cooperation could risk further transmission across state lines.
