An unauthorized herbal product manufacturing facility located in the Agege district of Lagos State has been raided and shut down by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, following intelligence regarding fake registration numbers found on various herbal items.
The agency disclosed this in a statement on its official X account, saying the investigation followed a report published by The Guardian on October 10, 2026, concerning herbal products carrying fake NAFDAC registration numbers.
According to NAFDAC, its investigative team conducted surveillance and discovered three variants of Asheitu Adams Bitters bearing registration number A7-1827L.
Verification through the agency’s NAPAMS portal revealed that the registration number actually belongs to Greentol Cough Syrup, confirming that it had been fraudulently used on the herbal products.
NAFDAC said the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer was absent during the operation, while its manager was arrested for further interrogation.
The agency urged members of the public to report suspected illegal manufacturing activities and other regulatory violations.
It provided its call centre numbers, 0800-1-623322 and 0700-1-623322, and the email address [email protected] for receiving credible information.
