LASEMA Successfully Douses Fire Outbreak at Navy House in Ikoyi

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) successfully brought a fire under control at the Navy House located at No. 41 Cameroon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, halting the flames from reaching adjacent levels or neighboring properties.

The agency said its Shark Team, deployed from the Lekki Base, received a distress call at 5:12pm on Saturday, October 3, 2026, and arrived at the scene within the estimated 20-minute response time.

According to a statement by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the team found the top floor of the storey building completely engulfed in flames on arrival.

“Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that the inferno was triggered by a power surge,” the statement said.

LASEMA said its responders immediately activated the Emergency Response Plan and worked with other emergency agencies to contain the fire.

The operation involved the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Navy Dockyards Limited, Nigerian Navy and Nigeria Police Force.

“Through a coordinated and well-orchestrated operation, the fire was quickly arrested and successfully put under control, preventing escalation to other floors and adjoining structures,” the agency said.

The statement said the multi-agency response was carried out under a unified command structure, describing the collaboration as a demonstration of the state’s emergency management system.

“No loss of life or injury was recorded as a result of the incident,” LASEMA said.

Following the containment of the fire, emergency responders conducted risk assessments and identified potential hazards before carrying out dampening-down operations to prevent a possible re-ignition.

The agency said the safety of occupants and residents within the area was subsequently secured.

The agency also reassured Lagos residents that it remained “fully mobilized, professionally equipped and operationally ready to respond swiftly to all emergencies across the State.”
